Why Do We Love Primitive Décor?

March 6th, 2014 Dutchland Quilt Patch

It’s no secret that those of us here at Dutchland Quilt Patch are in love with primitive décor. As our loyal readers and customers, we’re sure that we wouldn’t be too far off in assuming that most of you are fans as well. So the question that comes to mind here is, what is it about the primitive style that captures our attention and makes us fall in love with it? From large items, such as furniture to small decorative trinkets for around the house, what makes our brains say, “I’ve got to have that”?

Well for one, we would have to say that primitive décor is great in the way that it is more of a lifestyle rather than a design. When you look at anything that is labeled as “primitive,” you’ll notice that it just gives off an essence of warmth and simplicity. It’s not overly dramatic or bold; there’s nothing about it that flashes and says “look at me.” Instead, these items do wonders to complement and add just that little something extra special to each living space.

Another reason why so many people are drawn to primitive pieces is because when you put it all together, it just looks and feels comfortable. You can take a look at any sample of home décor in an magazine and appreciate the colors and modern, contemporary style but at the end of the day, would you feel comfortable kicking back and relaxing in that space? The neutral patterns with those worn-in features that we often see in our favorite décor actually feel like home; regardless of whether or not it really is your home or you’re just visiting a loved one, you feel a sense of home in a primitive space.

Of course, those are just our general thoughts on the matter; is there something about primitive décor that really draws you in? Let us know! We’d love to know what draws you in!
